UK native English speakers do not implicitly know the grammar of their native language. This talk presents the benefits of teaching traditional grammar used in EFL teaching materials explicitly for 40 hours before pre-service TESOL education. The talk outlines a starting point for instruction and gives reasons for why formal explicit grammar instruction needs consideration in UK TESOL education.
