Hornby Trust Alumnus Emma Mojoko Evele (Bilingual Grammar School, Molyko-Buea, Cameroon) In this session I will discuss the issue of literacy in English medium education. I will share experiences drawn from a three-month remedial literacy programme delivered to firstyear secondary school students whose overall performances were affected by the fact that they could neither read nor write intelligibly in other subjects of the curriculum. An intervention programme that engaged them with locally developed materials and different reading activities resulted in remarkable progress.
