Meet our Online Presenters

Rob Lewis, Kirsteen Donaghy, Nik Peachey

We're delighted to welcome back our presenters Kirsteen, Nik and Rob for another IATEFL Online. If you have any questions for them, please post a comment in the box below.

Kirsteen Donaghy
I’m an E-learning Consultant with the British Council. Which means I manage and develop TeachingEnglish online professional development courses for teachers. I am based in Malaysia, but meet and work with trainers, moderators and teachers all over the world. This is my fifth year with IATEFL Online and I absolutely love our unique experience at IATEFL as we get to discuss the headlining changes in ELT directly with the key speakers at the conference. It's a great way to taste what's going on in the conference and provide lots and lots of ideas and food for thought to teachers who couldn't make it to the conference in person.

Rob Lewis
I'm a freelance trainer, writer and consultant. Manchester is my seventh year working with the IATEFL Online team, and just like in previous years, I'm looking forward to speaking to presenters and delegates from around the world during the conference - both familiar and new faces.

Nik Peachey
Since 1992 I have worked all over the world as a language trainer, teacher trainer, project manager, author and consultant. I have worked with some of the most influential educational companies and publishers around the world including Google, International House, British Council, Bell Educational Services, BBC, Oxford University Press, Cambridge University Press, Macmillan, Pearson, The Open University and many others.
In 2012 I won The Innovations award for Excellence in Course innovation for the Blended Learning in ELT course I developed for Bell Educational Services.
My ebook Web 2.0 Tools for Teacher, released in 2009 has been read more than 200k times online. I also have two more books planned for launch this year. These are 'Creativity in language teaching', which I co-edited with Alan Maley and 'Digital Video' which is my own publication. At present I am Head of Learning at EnglishUp - an innovative online school for language learning.

Teaching of English for Functional Courses. The online International Conference on IATEFL will help to promote latest techniques for the learning of British English especially,in the back drop of American English  in todays world .

I am participating in an international conference online for the first time,Its a wonderful experience to relate myself with other  teachers of my proffession across the world.Iam from Pakistan and teach at National University of Modern Languages,Islamabad. My Ph.D is in Applied Linguistics. Its about Media, used as an instructional tool for the teachingof English. In 2012,Nik Peachy conducted a workshop on'Digital Learning' which was ofcourse very useful.Today Niks name attracted me to participate in this conference.

Thanks for giving us a chance to be a distant participant  of the 49th IATEFL conference. As a Manchester online blogger, I have been waiting eagerly for the online sessions. I become nostalgic when I think of IATEFL, Liverpool conference which I could attend physically in 2013. Physical or virtual, IATEFL is IATEFL. Cheers.

Am a Volunteer ESOL tutor just want to find out if you are live at the moment.

Hello,

We'll be back live at 14:30 UK time with an interview with George Pickering :)

Thank you #IATEFL for having this accessible to all via online! I just presented at Tesol International and I am always excited to learn best practices to integrate in the classroom!

Best,

Kerri

The interviews of vrious English teachers are remarkable especially the interviews with Bilal Ahmed and Arzu Daniel about learn English at radio in Pakistan, which is only a three months launch. My research was also on the same topic because here we ev dearth of Enlish teachers in rural remote areas ofPakistan. Our youth is 60% which needs English urgently.Radio and mobile can do wonders in this field.

This is Nadeem from Yemen. I was about to participate in this year's conference, and present a talk session tomorrow titled " How can the British Council products lead to learner autonomy?", but due to the closure of the British Embassy in Yemen, I couldn't get a visa. I'll try to follow some of the online sessions and interviews. My question: can I write some comments about these sessions?

Hello,

We're really sorry to hear you couldn't present at this year's conference. Do feel free to comment about any sessions we make available. Thank you for joining us online!

Todays plenary session and most of the interviews revoled around the use of technology in a classroom. All kinds of innovative idea  put across the the teachers were simply marvellous. the creations of vedio books, vedio stories  such as by Nik Peachy sounds great.Technology is no wonder the greatest wonder of the world.Live telecast of IATEFL is the proof of it.Iam sure its going to bring revolution in teaching learning senario across the countries its been seen.A country like Pakistan suffering from long breakdowns of electricity is grappling with the application of technology in her classrooms.I hope it can catch up with the world !

In Pakistan several teachers are opposed to using tecnology in a classroom. Their arguments vary. Most strongest one is its impact on culture. So how to motivate teachers in first place?

He is one of my favourite linguist. He talked about accent and pronunciation and i appreciate as he says to respect technology. But  we teach British English at schools and the exposure the students get is of American Enlish, they learn to write British but speak and spell in an american way.How to resolve this dilemma ?

To is the fourth consecetive day of the conference but im glued to it.Keep it up !

Thank you! :)
