English Language Teaching in Africa Symposium

Session details

The English language was introduced to Africa during colonialism and is now taught in many African countries as a second or foreign language. This symposium, convened by Nigussie Negash, is a first attempt at IATEFL to bring together teachers, researchers and experts to share their experiences and to lay the foundation for future networking and dialogue. There will be five presentations by people who live and work in, or are familiar with,Sub-Saharan Africa. These are "Research on PRESETT in 5 African Countries" by a team of six researchers, including Michael Baffoka, led by Eddie Williams, "The Use of Video in Angolan Classrooms", by Celeste Sambeny and Lucia Pascoal, "Designing ReadingComprehension Materials in an Environment of Material Scarcity in Burkina Faso", by Constantin Sanon, "Coping with the Lack of Materials in Senegalese Settings", by Latsouck Gueye, and "English in Development in a Multilingual Ethiopia", by Nigussie Negash.
