Comedy night with Mrs. Hoover

What a good laugh it was.

Mrs Hoover, a landlady who’s been hosting foreign students for apparently 40 years, demonstrated with very practical examples how she treats (or mistreats) her guests. Eccentrically yet hansomely dressed, Mrs Hoover immediately charmed the audience with her manners and pitch of voice. As she put it, shouting has ist place, and all students react to a shout used at the right moment.

According to her records, she’s never had a bad review. Her students are given ‘the real experience’, and are have the opportunity to perform household chores such as mowing the lawn or painting walls. By doing this, they really experience what life is like in England, and have an ‘unforgettable experience’! By the way, she informed us that houses in the UK have names, and hers is a compound of her own name – Joyce – with her husband’s – Leslie - , so the enchanting house situated in the best place in the world is called JOYLES. Isn’t it fantastic?

She very generously taught us names of British biscuits, sang us a song especially composed for the occasion playing her ukelele and explained how one must decorate one’s house for Royal national events – bunting!

My life will never be the same after this enlightening talk given by Mrs Hoover.
It was amusing to the point of having tears coming to my eyes – she is magical, hilarious and absolutely unmissable!

Another goal scored by the IATEFL organising committee!
