Creating and delivering online professional development using Moodle, Barbara Gardner, 14.30-15.15, Monday 18th April

If you are a teacher tainer, you probably know Moodle. It is a virtual learning environment with a focus on interaction and collaboration. http://moodle.org

However, what makes this presention valuable is adapting Moodle according to the target group's characteristics. Also, she restructured and added useful components to overcome the challenges of IT fear and skills of the trainees. These components are orientation quizzes, printable instructions, "how to" videos, mini tasks, portfolio tasks, lesson examples, reflective journal, revision quizzes, face to face support from APs, keyboard cuts and checklists.

While adapting Moodle, she used those web 2.0 tools:

1. www.cutepdf.com/products/CutePDF/writer.asp

2. www.techsmith.com/jing/

3. http://smarttech.com

4. www.techsmith.com/snagit/default.asp

5. www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/home

6. www.surveymonkey.com

7. www.dropbox.com

8. http://penzu.com/ (It is my favourite one that is used for reflective journals.)

9. www.wordle.net

Actually, these tools are not only useful for teacher trainers, but also for language teachers.
