Reflective Practice for Language Teacher, Plenary Session by Tom Farrell, 09.00-10.00, Monday 18th April

As a teacher, you may reflect on your own teaching, role and identity all the time! It is pretty good, but Farrell asks: "How do you know your classes went good or bad?"

He claims :"I do not believe in teacher intuition. but I do believe in evidence!"

He suggests recording the class, using teaching journals, observations and teacher reflection groups as tools to collect data in order to take a positive action in the class. Also, he suggests doing reflection on-the-spot, reflection after teaching for your own evaluation and reflection for proactive thinking to guide future action.

He further explains that the power of observation and reflection will be beneficial for raising awareness and self-improvement.

I left the session with many thoughts about my previous classes and how to use reflective teaching for both the students and my own teaching!
