Transformation Stories - Robert Hill

Transformations - in various forms! - are common to fairy tales, folk tales, novels, films, and TV ‘makeover’ and talent shows.
This session will explore stories involving transformations, and suggest how Internet projects, films, illustrations and text connections can expand learners’ language skills and their awareness of the world. Examples of activities will be taken from Black Cat graded readers.

Hi, Rob,

Great workshop....which is why we have invited you to Poland's IATEFL Conference in September this year. I especially enjoyed the transformation of Susan Boyle! After your references to the lady next to me, I honestly can't remember who it was! We did work closely together though!

It was 'moi' who mentioned 'Educating Rita' and the Professor's reference in the film to Rita being like Frankenstein, a monster he had created. Very poignant scene - the best iin the film - where the professor, Frank is drunk, and the two of them share some 'home truths' about each other.

In Poland, we presently have a transformation story after the tragdy at the weekend, whereby the previously derided President is now being portrayed as a great patriot and hero. The hypocisy of the press is sickening.

Yes, Robert, transformations are very important in our lives....and your workshop conveyed that point so acutely well. Thanks.
