Teaching the mobile generation - Nicky Hockly
Learners are coming to class increasingly wired up: iPods, MP3 players, mobile phones, digital cameras... How can teachers integrate this technology into classroom teaching? This workshop looks at some of the resources that students can access on their mobile devices, and also at the video and audio that they themselves can produce in class, using mobile technology.

Hey Nicky,
Very much interested in this topic. I still have my reservations in connection to using cell phones and all that in the classroom. Maybe one of them is: do all students have access to Internet when using their cell phones (in Venezuela)? Another one is connectivity (Is it slow / too slow when doing an activity?). Most students have a cell phone, that's for sure. I believe Venezuela , in Latin-America, is one of the countries with the highest percentage of cell phone users especially among young people (including children).
Also, I wonder how I can use the cell phone, for example, for teaching or practicing reading inside or outside the classroom.
I hope this session will be recorded.
Miguel:)

Hi Miguel,
Thanks for your comments, and sorry I won't get to see you in person in Harrogate. We are going to record my session, which I will upload to YouTube - some of the issues you bring up above will be addressed in that, so perhaps you could watch the session, then we could continue the discussion after that, on one of the forums here? In my opinion that mobile learning is a large subject, and there is plenty to say about it (although that might just be me!):-)

Hi Nicky,
I live in Montevideo, Uruguay and I think we have a similar situation that the one Miguel mentions.
At least here, access to technology is becoming more affordable, but that doesn't mean that most of the people have access to “connected” mobile devices.
I would really love to watch your recorded session.
Best,
Mercedes

Hi Nicky,
Yep. Rough time in Vzla to make plans this year. Some time I will have the chance to experience an IATEFL event. However, I had the opportunity to attend the pre-conference event in Second Life and it was really great (Mark Pengrum, Scott Thornbury and Stephen Bax).
Looking forward to watching the video in Youtube.
Miguel
PS. Just read in Shaun Wilden's blog, it was a great and interesting presentation. Kudos!:)

Hi Heather,
We've uploaded the recorded video of the talk to you Tube channel -- because it's an hour-long, it had to be divided into six parts, which you can access via this playlist http://tinyurl.com/y22n5om
I hope you find it useful, and please let me know if you have any questions, okay? :-)
