testing in literature

everyone is speaking about testing, evaluation and assessment but how can we apply this in literature. I'm really interested in testing
in literature (ELT). I've also tried to have 'Carter R & M Long (1990) Testing literature in EFL classes: tradition and innovation' but I couldn't so please anyone in the field would help.
