IATEFL LT SIG PRE CONFERENCE EVENT - participate live in Second Life
Hi everyone.
I thought that some of you might be interested in our upcoming event in Second Life:
Come and join us live from Harrogate and in Second Life at AVALON Learning (http://slurl.com/secondlife/AVALON%20Learning/98/52/36) on Wednesday 7h April for our IATEFL Pre-Conference Event.
The main focus of the PCE day will be to consider where we are now in the field of learning technologies and language learning and where we might be going. Have we reached a time when learning technologies are a ‘normalised’ part of our practice, or is there still some way to go? Are there any predictions we can make about the future?
We have asked three people—Stephen Bax, Scott Thornbury and Mark Pegrum—to help us with short focused presentations during the day at various points to seed the debate. Stephen and Scott will be in Harrogate, Mark will be online in Second Life.
Group leaders (in Harrogate and online in Second Life) will then work with the conference participants to support the discussion of whatever questions get raised as a part of the day; groups will then report back to the audience.
Timetable:
11.00-12.30 UK Time (check local time here: http://tinyurl.com/yduufux)
“Digital literacies: Where do we start?” - Mark Pegrum (live from Second Life).
Prepare for this by reading (http://bit.ly/cLVV81) a draft chapter (PDF) by Mark about Digital Literacies, watching a (http://drop.io/ozmark17c) video (download) and a (http://www.slideshare.net/OzMark17) short slideshow presentation.
13.15-14.45 UK Time (check local time here: http://tinyurl.com/yau9qml) - Scott Thornbury
15.15-16.30 UK Time (check local time here: http://tinyurl.com/y8bkwvg) - Stephen Bax
16.30-17.00 UK Time - Rounding Up
Hope to see some of you there!
Sounds great, Graham. I'm sure it will be brilliant.
Thank you so much for arranging this event. I had a great afternoon. Please can we have more events like this next year!

Hi again
Thanks for the links. I'm going to circulate that around some colleagues who laughed when I said I was attending the PCE via SL - however, when I explained how it all worked, they were quite intrigued so now I can show them ... Hoping next year maybe I can organise an LT-PCE coffee morning here and help some of my friends participate, so then we'd have a third level of discussion - the venue, SL and my place!
Thanks again
Heather (Erika - obviously!)
Thnx for all you share with us. I'd like to learn more about using technology in class. Any online course you recommend?
If you go to the seeta website you can read the postings from Nik Peachey's workshop last year to get you started and then if you find his blogs you will find a lot of tips for using tech in class - there are many blogs that give tips and help for using technology in class - a good starting point before you go on a course. There are 55 plus sessions on technology in the conference so if you go to the session list you'll find many of those have powerpoints and handouts as well.
Shaun
oops forgot to link http://iatefl-ltsig.ning.com/ where you can also find lots of advise and tools
Thnx a lot Shaun Wilden.
