Using Pop Music To Enhance Language Learning

Presented By Fergal Kavanagh

Session Details

One of the best ways to involve students in the learning process is to use pop music.  This powerful and motivating teaching tool engages the student emotionally, helping to fix vocabulary and structures into long-term memory. Practical examples will be included to show how songs can best be exploited in the language classroom .

The project is perfect! I like singing songs with my students. Thank you for this resource. The students all over the world listen to pop music, try to sing it and to undersand what it is about. And songs really help to fix and enrich the vocabulary.

Thank you for this - if you

Exellent idea, Fergal! I've also tried to something similar to yours. It was more or less successful. I frequently refer my Ss to song lines to help them better memorise some material. I've just been to the websight. What you've done is really incredible!

I have a question: How do you choose songs? What are the criteria?

Thanks,

Tori

Tori,

Thank you for this. The songs I use in my presentations are chosen for both their popularity and didactic qualities, while the worksheets on the website are submitted by teachers - perhaps you would like to become a contributor?

I look forward to seeing you at the conference, best wishes,

 Fergal
