Talk the Torque! Knowledge for the technical English classroom

Technical students bring varying degrees of knowledge to the ESP classroom. But how much do teachers need to know? Using examples from the new Pearson Longman course Technical English, the author will explore how teachers can acquire technical knowledge and put their learners' backgrounds to good use in the classroom.

About David Bonamy

David Bonamy is a teacher, teacher trainer and author in the field of ESP and particularly technical English.

He worked for the British Council as a technical English consultant and ESP adviser in Indonesia and Egypt: five years in Bandung, Indonesia and seven years in Alexandria, Egypt.

He was a principal lecturer in the Language and Communication Department of Singapore Polytechnic, where he taught English and communication skills to business and engineering students for seven years.

He also worked for two years as an English language trainer and team leader at Kuwait International Airport.

His five-year course English for Industrial Schools is currently used in Egyptian schools.

His most recent publication is the two-year course Technical English 1 and 2, published by Pearson Longman.
