Linguistic ecology, language use and English sentence comprehension among pupils

Children's linguistic environment has influence on language learning, language use and attitude to language. Considering recent developments, with their attendant linguistic infusions into the Nigerian linguistic ecology, this study examines these language issues as they relate to English against linguistic ecologies of two generations of pupils of a primary school in a university community in Nigeria.

Nkechi M. Christopher is a lecturer in the Department of Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics (University of Benin, Nigeria) and a PhD in Communication and Language Arts (University of Ibadan). In addition to academics, she is involved in literacy development programmes and projects.
