Technology is becoming increasingly important in our personal and professional lives and quite often it is students rather than teachers who are using applications such as ‘Facebook', ‘MySpace' and ‘Twitter' to build their own on-line communities. New technological applications are often seen as complicated and not suitable for the ELT classroom. Our aim is to show that this need not be the case.

Nicky Hockly, co-author of How to Teach English with Technology, will host a discussion using live online links to a number of experts and teachers around the world. The session will highlight ways in which new applications can be used effectively to enhance classroom learning and professional development. It will also show that technology can build a sense of community with both learners and other professionals helping to build a global ELT community.
