We explore the idea that to become a convincing speaker in another language may involve a significant shift in personality.  Can embracing the target culture more closely help achieve this? Through a film clip we will observe differences in 'cultural personality' of target language speakers and suggest activities to help learners step more securely into this new personal dimension.

About Juliet du Mont

Juliet du Mont has had a dual career in dance/theatre and ELT.  After three years with the British Council in Kenya, followed by a similar period in Brazil freelancing and giving teacher development workshops at the Universidade Federal do Amazonas, she is now resident in South Africa.  She is currently pursuing her special interest: exploring the use of physical movement in ELT via workshops with English language teachers in Cape Town.
