Coping with language anxiety: an agentic perspective

Presented By Stephen Scott Brewer

Session Details

Foreign language learning can evoke anxiety in otherwise well-functioning individuals, undermining their attempts to communicate and weakening their motivation. Teachers justifiably create low-anxiety classrooms to promote 'natural language acquisition' and support motivation. An agentic perspective pursues these fundamental 'protective' aims but also asks how teachers can empower students to fight and win their own battles.
