Session Details

As part of a regional project called Access English British Council has been working with MoEs in 5 countries to develop effective on-line mechanisms in order to support for teachers both in and out of the classroom. I will present the story so far - the processes, the issues and learning points and the progress.

Hundreds of thousands of teachers across East Asia lack ready access to relevant resources to support their teaching: resources such as lesson plans which relate to their curricula; lesson ideas appropriate to their contexts; methodological articles that are anchored in their particular teaching contexts; and distance support systems which enable them to access learning opportunities directly, rather than waiting for face-to-face interventions.

Therefore, many MoEs are currently developing virtual support systems to offer teachers more support such as lesson plans, methodological articles, and learning opportunities. Access English, a regional project covering nine countries is supporting this process through providing content appropriate to the context and through providing expertise to support MoEs in developing the most effective on-line mechanisms to deliver this support to the teachers. This presentation will look at the first stages of a 3 year project and will look at:

  • The background to the project
  • The rationale for supporting virtual networks
  • An overview of the processes
  • The content and how to make it appropriate for the different contexts
  • The on-line delivery mechanisms
  • Examples of progress from specific countries and the particular issues they face
  • What has been successful so far and why
  • Next steps
