How to become a (more) successful language learner

Presented By Ene Peterson

Session Details

Learning a foreign language comes "naturally" for some students, with great difficulty for others. At tertiary level students are expected to be independent, self-motivated, etc. But is it always like that?

This workshop will focus on helping students discover their personal resources, identify their skills. We offer practical ideas and activities how to combine aspects of online and face-to-face instruction.

Dear Ene,

We are English teahers at Krasnoyarsk State Teacher Training University and Krasnoyarsk Gymnasia "Univers" № 1 in Russia. We are trying to make and implement a project on Using the Internet for Developing Writing Skills. For this purpose we organised communication of our students with English-speaking mates via email. In their letters they discussed such topics as Free time and Cities. As a result, they received letters, photos and made presentations to their classmates. After the presentation, the volunteers decided to continue their email communication and also inspired their friends to participate in this process. The results have shown that the students became more motivated and overcame the hardships of writing coherent sentences and paragraphs. Therefore, we agree with you that Information Technologies can help students to become a successful language learner.

Yours sincerely,

Elena and Albina
