Even university, college academic rankholders fail in interview handling.why do students lack in their communicative skills. Is it because of the irrelevant syllabus or untrained teachers?

Hello Jeremy, Mangay and all,
I ve been wondering for a while now how employers on their part manage to discern a good candidate with so many job seekers just learning the trickery of " the interview game" :)?
I recall two excellent units on this issue. One was in Longman's Market Leader intermediate SB and the other in Longman's Insight into business. I can write the titles as well later on if need be. It can make a very good reading for those interested in the topic

hi natasha,
please come out with the titles.as you said the employers dont bother much about the students academic credits.they recruit students on their perfomance in the following modules
1aptitude tests
2,group discussion
3.HR
in this limelight, what can be done to promote students in the above modules?

Hello Mangay and all
here are the titles:
New Insight into Business by Graham Tullis and Tonya Trappe /Longman/ Unit 2 p.16 Fit for hiring? It is mind over matter.
Extract:
Research has shown that most desicion makers make their hiring decisions in the first five minutes of an interview and spend the rest of the time rationalizing their choice. Besides, with advice on how to land a better job about as common as a ten dollar bill, many people are learning to play the interview game
But the more comprehensive testing aims to measure skills in communications, analysis and organization, attention to detail and management style: personality traits and motivations that behavioural scientists say predict performance

thanks natasha for your precise abstract.can you tel us about yourself and your specialised areas.

Hello
By interview handling, I assume you refer to job interviews. I think this is a huge problem for native speakers and non-natives alike, although of course non-natives have a lot more work to do to impress in a second language. I'd say the two interrelated issues are: lack of practice, or knowldedge of what to practise before an interview in English; and lack of language i.e. the phrases and techniques to learn in order to sound impressive in an interview.
I can recommend a very good book on this topic, Cambridge English for Jobhunting http://www.cambridge.org/elt/englishforjobhunting/, which provides guidance for CVs, application letters, interviews and various other stages in the jobhunting proces s. I was Series Editor for this book, so my recommendation isn't exactly impartial, but I do think it's very useful for many learners.
All the best
Jeremy
