Dear All

Recently, I asked a teacher trainer why she became a teacher trainer.  Pat came this reply:  "I don't know."  I asked myself why I became a teacher trainer.  My reply is this: "I admired a teacher trainer and educator who inspired me to become a trainer".  I'll expand my response soon.

Why did you become a teacher trainer / educator?

Looking forward to reading your comments.

Albert

Hello Rayan and all,

I ve just logged in to this thread of questions. Maybe a good enough question  would certainly have to come before this one:" Why did we become teachers in the first place". :)

Back in January we had a BC SEETA online discussion week with Philip Kerr on a related topic" What got you started or what keeps you going?" It was a wonderful discussion. Hope to elaborate on this a bit more any time soon.

Teacher trainer? I guess it comes as only as a natural sequence of things just wishing to share experience the same way we do with our Ss? Yes, I agree with you that I did admire teacher trainers I ve had so far which gives the whole thing an added value

My decision to become a teacher trainer/educator  resulted from participation in the British Council Project on designing National ESP Curriculum which was innovative by its nature for the majority of local teachers.  That is why to introduce changes in teaching ESP in the country it was necessary to provide a series of teacher trainings. To be involved in the process of managing change and sharing my ideas and experience of learning and teaching ESP I've made up my mind to undergo special training in ELT Trainer development. Besides, I saw teacher training as one of the areas of ESP, though now I can see it from different perspectives.

Now I'm combining my teaching EAP/ESP for university students with training teachers at regional and national level. My teaching practice helps me much to find the ideas for future trainings. So, as you see, my path from teaching to teacher training through learning is quite natural.

Hello teacher/mentor friends,

I am new in this web site and got interested with your exchange of ideas. While reading, I just couldn't wait to respond and contribute to your converstions. Just like almost all the rest who answered the question of why we became teacher trainers, I became one when I was deeply exposed to the extreme poverty and high iliteracy in our country. With the security constraints I had to face while doing my felt noble mission I thought 1 bullet would be enough to kill the noble dream of seeing our country out from the cycle of violence and poverty. So I thought of going back to the academe to train more teachers who will be one with us in our noble task of educating many people from the country sides.

Although I miss so much going into the field for non formal school, my longing is compensated by the students who are willing to take the challenge. As soon as my schedule allows me to go to the countrysides, I will be out of the school every weekend to do volunteer jobs.
