What are the best none structured learning methods?

Hi all,
I recently came across a report showing that none structured learning methods, such as communication through IM-tools are one of the most efficient tools for improving peoples language skills.
I need to recommed the service I've been involved in, it's a language community for language exchange, called Lingofriends.com.
It would be interesting to get language teachers and language professionals opinions about the phenomenon; online language exchange?

thank you for your information, i would like to mention that for English teachers who live and teach in Eastern Europe, where you cannot find English-speaking environment, it is very useful to master English being involved in online services communicating with native English speakers. As they say, Practice makes perfect :- )
