A message to all IATEFL Cardiff Presenters from the IATEFL Conference Committee
- Login to post comments
We hoping that this year the Online Conference coverage – Cardiff
Online - will be even more successful than before. The Cardiff Online
website will host live and on-demand video presentations, video
interviews with presenters and conference delegates, text reports and
moderated discussion forums. The Cardiff Online project aims to provide
teachers worldwide with an opportunity to share ideas with colleagues
before, during and after the conference.
As a presenter, you have a vital role in the Cardiff Online project.
This year we are inviting all the Cardiff Conference presenters to
upload their presentations (abstract, powerpoint presentations,
handouts etc) to the Cardiff Online website.
All those presenting should have received an email from IATEFL with some instructions.
Each session will have its own unique webpage on the Cardiff Online website.
Users
will be able to post comments on each session which will allow you –
the presenters - to interact with online delegates via each session
page.
Uploading your session to the Cardiff Online website
Here are some instructions on how to upload your materials to the website:
(1) You start here on the Cardiff Online website
(2) At the top-right of the Cardiff Online homepage, click on
- Register for an account –
This takes you to the ‘User account’ page
(3) Type your name in the user name box and type in your email address
(4) In the area below ‘apply for a role’, click ‘presenter’.
Then ‘create new account’
(5) The Cardiff Online team will then verify this presenter registration request.
Once
we have approved your account request, you will receive an email with
your account details. This email will include your password (which you
can change later) and a web link.
Click on the link to activate your account.
*Please note: you should save this email as you may need it later if you forget your username or password
(6) You will now be on your profile page.
On the right, you will see ‘Presenter Quick Links’, click on ‘Add a session’
(7) You will now be on the session upload page – please read the information at the top of this page.
(8) Enter details of your session. Further instructions are provided on the upload page to help you with this process.
*Please note:
- if two people are co-presenting this session, please nominate one of you upload your session materials
- you can come back to this page and edit your session information at any time
- there is a maximum file size (20MB) for each file you upload
- if you need to check the abstract you submitted to IATEFL, please go to:
http://tiny.cc/cybFK
*Please note: If you have any problems with uploading documents or
any other information to the Cardiff Online website, please use the
‘contact us’ form on the Cardiff Online website.
Note that if you
have several attachments, the upload process can take some time. Please
don’t close your browser window until the screen refreshes and you see
the message: Session XYZ has been created
Finally…
We
very much hope that you will do this before coming to Cardiff,
especially as the 5,000 Online delegates provide an even larger
potential audience than the 1,600 delegates present at Cardiff.
Many thanks,
IATEFL Conference Committee and Cardiff Online team
Hi Inas

Cardiff Online Team
Dear Julian,
On scrolling down the Conference Programme from the black bar, I discovered that the various sessions taking place in Cardiff are marked according to which Special Interest Areas they cater for. Thus to the left of the descriptions one can occasionally find the abbreviation ELTM.
This means English Language Teaching Management and I discovered that 15 sessions are thus designated (3 on Wednesday, 2 on Thursday, 3 on Friday and 4 on Saturday). These sessions should be of particular interest for users of my forum.
My question here is:
Is it the responsibility of the presenters of the 15 sessions aimed at ELTM to advertise them somewhere on my forum or do/can/should the OMs alert the users to them? Do the sessions get some sort of link which goes automatically to my forum, or do I (or another OM) tell the users what is going on each day?
I would rather not take the initiative on this before finding out what is planned.
Thanks, Julian, you have always been so good at helping me up to now!
Diana
Hi Diana and Julian,
I'm a conference presenter and uploaded my slides etc about a week ago. I actually wanted some feedback so I posted a thread in the EAP forum http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/whos-afraid-data-question so I could get this feedback.
However, I too would like to know whether we should be monitoring the presentations relevant to our forum and alerting users to it. I don't imagine that every presenter is necessarily online to do this themselves.
Olwyn
Hi Olwyn and Diana
We have set up a system where the sessions that are uploaded will also contain a link to the Special Interest forum - that's if sessions fall into a special interest category - most do
We'll becreating these links in the session pages in the coming days
We`re also working on the session search facility so you'll all have a better idea as to which sessions have been uploaded to the site - this isn't too clear right now
Many thanks
Julian
Dear Julian,
will the pre conference events be available online?
Thanks,
Silvia
Hi Silvia
On the Pre Conference Event (PCE) day (Tuesday) we'll be interviewing presenters and delegates during the breaks
We do not (as yet) have plans to record any of these sessions
Thanks
Julian
Julian,
Can we have a way of getting to symposiums too as well as to SIG areas please. Or if this is impossible, can there be a message somewhere which tells anyone accessing the wesbite to look at the Saturday programme if they want to access a symposium. Thanks! Peter
Hi Peter
Thanks for this
All the symposiums take place on Saturday 4th so if you go to the 'programme page' at
http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/programme/home
and then in the 'Search for a Session' area at the bottom of this page select 'symposium' in the 'special interest area' drop down list
this takes you to
http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/programme/search?sia=99&field_even...
This page shows all the search results for symposiums that have been uploaded by presenters whose sessions take place on Saturday
Many thanks
Julian
Hello Julian
Sorry, but I don't know how to upload the session. I have read the instructions above. I don't know If I am a presenter because I tried to apply for a role, clicked "presenter". I didn't receive your e-mail with accont details. I tried again but on my page there is only one word "moderator". Perhapse I did something wrong. And what are my key words to upload the session? What should I do? Should I change the accout details you sent me?
I successfully took part on the forums.
Thanks
Larissa Ilina
Hi Larissa
I`ve sent you an email about your account details
Thanks
Julian
Dear Julian
Thanks for information about my account details.
Larissa
Hi everybody,
Sorry but I cannot see any "presenter quick links" on the right..:(
Congratulations and thanks for all.
María Jordano
Hi Maria,
I have now updated you role and should see a presenter quick links when you log in.
Martin & the Cardiff Online Team
Hi to the online team.
I'd like to upload the session we did at the pre-conference day but I don't think I signed up as a presenter. This is probably why I can't see any of the links you mention.
Please help!
Jo
Hi Jo
your presenter account has now been approved. Please follow the instructions above (in the opening message in this thread)
Many thanks
Julian
Hi Julian,
I see that the video of my session is now available on my web page. Is there any way I can get a copy of the file and can I have permission to upload it to another site, e.g. at my university? It would be nice if it didn't disappear once Cardiff Online is wound down.
Thanks
Olwyn
Dear Olwyn,
Just seen that you are online, so you've obviously got back safely from Cardiff.
As you are one of the few (or are you indeed the only?) Moderators who are also Presenters, I'd love to hear your impressions of how things have been going before, during and after the actual conference.
Please look at the thread "Post-Cardiff Blues" on the Moderators forum.
Thanks !
Diana
Hi Diana,
I've beaten you to it :-) see my thoughts already up on the Cardiff Blues thread.
Olwyn
Hi Olwyn
We`ll need to check whether you'll be able to save the file or whether we need to send it to you.
I`ll get back to you on this in the coming days. All the video files/ materials will be available on the Cardiff Online website for the next 12 months.
Best wishes and great to meet up with you in Cardiff
Julian
