I'm sure Cardiff Online has plans for getting more people on the forums, though I don't know what they are or when they will begin. But if we each get two of our friends to join we'll increase numbers here at once. I invited Wendy and will think hard who else I can write to. Can you all try and get a couple of people to join us?
Anna gets two brownie points. :-) Someone pointed out to me yesterday, though, that the actual conference does not begin until 31 March/April 1st. I guess we should not expect too much activity until then. At the moment we are practising.
Hello everyone
First of all I hope we all have a good weekend.
I hope to earn brownie points too ;) by sending out invites to a couple of teacher "lists" I belong to in France !
I shall probably do this a couple of days before the 31st ,so that people come and visit when the "real" action is ready to start !
Is the timing good ? or is it better to do it now ? Experienced moderators please speak up ? !!
Helen,
I think your instinct is correct - invite colleagues to join just as the conference starts and, hopefully, the frenzied action begins.
Hi Dennis, Helen and Anna
Thanks for helping us promote Cardiff Online.
Can I suggest you let your contacts know about Cardiff Online now - if you're posting to lists, the information we've posted at
http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/help-us-promote-cardiff-online
might be useful.
(We've updated this message & now have staffroom posters available)
The reason I suggest posting now is that those who get this information early, will be able to inform others ... and so on...
We'll be continuing our efforts to promote Cardiff Online ourselves in the coming days so I think we can expect numbers to rise as the conference approaches.
Many thanks & best wishes
Julian & Cardiff Online team
Julian,
If you see this let me mention that in answer to your suggestion I'm about to write to a number of TEFL lists comprising a membership of about 2000. But don't get euphoric, they are 99.8% lurkers.
Thanks Dennis
That sounds great - brownie points all round!
Cheers
Julian
Thanks Julian, but......
Using Gmail I sent a message to about 20 lists, i.e. 20 addresses, all of them Yahoogroups , and several came back rejected because the server decided they were going to too many recipients. I'll send them out in 3s and 4s, but it is tedious.

Hi Dennis
Just wanted to say that
there is now a banner on factworld.
Sorry I didn’t think of
it before your mail!
Also, it’s a great job
you’re doing, hope the numbers are bigger than last year!
Best
Keith
I choose to interpret this as meaning the posting prompted him to put up the banner. Keith's Factworld list has about 2,000 members.
I ‘ve just finished sending out information about Cardiff Online to the following Yahoogroups lists. I’m co-owner/moderator/founder for many of them and a member of all of them.

Young Learners 556
Secondlife languages 91
Evoline (Webheads) 786
Learning with computers 442
Inter-Elta (German Association of English language Teachers ‘associations) 43
Dogme (Scott Thornbury’s list) 908
GISIG (Global issues) 170
The Following English lists:

Croatia 275
Czech 350
Germany 226
Kosovo 195
Macedonia 57

Slovakia 249

I make that 9,169 . Can I go off for a cup of tea now?
Today I make it 10,921 .....
(Thanks for clearing it up).
???? I pasted in part of a message and the result is gibberish I cannot delete. Isn't it possible to paste - it was old from WORD
Just circulated info about Cardiff Online to something like 9000 people. I wanted to report to which lists.
.
Hi Dennis & all
I think I managed to get this text looking OK
If you paste to the text box , then in the input format options, click 'plain text', then 'save' it should work
Thanks Dennis for the promotions - plenty of brownie points for that!
Cheers
Julian
Hi all,
Inspired by Dennis, I have just sent invitations to Cardiff to my yahoo group members (TEI2006) some 40 colleagues.I Hope they will respond to my invitation.Good luck to us;)
Mostafa- LMCS moderator.
Hi everyone,
I have sent out invitations to my "Comenious" friends from Hungary and Portugal, to my ELTECs project friends from Croatia, Greece and Turkey, to my Bulgarian and Romanian colleagues, to the Chinese colleagues I met at the China IATEFL conference and have printed and personally handed out and explained how to navigate the conference site to my colleagues at the school and the university. I haver asked them to spead the word to as many teachers as they can.
Because I know how shy my Chinese colleagues are, I have told them that they don't have to necesserally write or speak. They can log on and just read or listen. If and when they feel comfortable , they can join a discussion.
Hope that's alright with you.
Hi everyone
in the quest for brownie points ( although Dennis is in another league table ) I sent an invitation to a yahoogroups list for English teachers in French schools (eTeachnet).
I'm sure we all deserve virtual brownie points !
I posted an announcement on the Teaching Children SIG for JALT (Japan). Hope not everyone is off on holiday for Spring Break, and some show up here :)
Mostafa, Iskra, Helen, Barbsaka,
Thanks for your efforts to recruit more members of this forum.
Already, as you have all noticed, the discussion here is cracking along and - of course we know that it is the quality not the quantity - we are in place 3 or 4 when it comes to the big posters.
There is such richness in our roughly 160 messages. I do hope that some of us can follow up some of the topics outside and after the conference. I am very keen, for example, to re-read and think about the postings from Kosovo, and others of you will have different personal interests you wish to pursue.
And think. The conference has not begun yet!

I'm going to do the same and invite my colleagues from work, it's a great idea I think. The more the merrier! :-)
