Learner Autonomy in Writing Skills

Hi,
There is a common core of issues and understanding regarding learner autonomy but the practical English Language Teaching challenge several common assumptions in ELT pedagogy, as we have seen at our questions: WHAT else can be used on this way? Does anyone have any tasks/activities or design principles for fostering learner autonomy that they can share? Does anyone have any tips or techniques for me regarding the fostering of autonomy in the classroom using the target language?
What kinds of practical suggestions, resourses and activities could be integrated into the regular curriculum in order to serve a linguistic purpose in writing skills and development of learner autonomy?

Writing lessons have always been headache for students because most teachers leave writing left for home as homework. I think, writing in the classroom can be fun if activities designed are appropriate for their learning needs and serve a communicative approach. If students enjoyed writing and saw their learning progress, they would definitely do their best to improve that skill.
