There's a lot going on in the EAP forum and it would be great to hear some more views on the topics. This summary is to help you find your way around if you've just joined the discussion.
In the listening thread we're discussing what kind of listening skills we should be teaching EAP students http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/listening-eap
The corpora and concordancing thread has suggestions for free websites to access these tools http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/corpora-and-concordancing-to...
Andrea has asked what genres we need to teach in EAP and Zira has produced a list http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/evolving-genres#comment-2080 Can you add some more?
We think of EAP as being a kind of ESP but perhaps academic English is more generic than other kinds of English and is the same whatever the context. That should make it easier to produce EAP coursebooks. http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/coursebooks-eap
Can we teach EAP to low level learners? http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/low-level-eap-it-possible#co...
Do you prepare students for the global language exams? How do you see these fitting into EAP? http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/ielts-and-toefl
Here's a look at the IELTS writing 1 question on data which will be presented at the conference and is now available online http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/whos-afraid-data-question
What is critical thinking? Sue suggests it's about curiosity http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/what-critical-thinking#comment-1370 but not everyone agrees.
In methodology questions we're asking if communicative langauge teaching methodologies apply to EAP http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/methodology-questions
There's a really useful contribution from Nik Peachey in the learning technologies thread on how to manage information you retrieve from the web http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/learning-technologies-eap#co...
It would be good to hear more experiences of teaching single or multi-discipline classes http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/multidisciplinary-courses
Zira has asked the provocative question whether academic purposes match student's purposes http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/eap-vs-esp-0
A look at teacher competencies with reference to a recent publication from BALEAP http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/competent-eap-teacher-someon...
And related to teacher competencies the role of the teacher asks if EAP teachers should also be researchers http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/role-teacher
Next door in the Business English and ESP forums there's a lot that's relevant to EAP too.
In the ESP forum there's a debate about the role of textbooks for specialist teaching http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/esp-and-needs-analysis#comme...
There's a thread asking where to start from in designing an ESP course http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/esp-course-design-what-start
And there's a thread asking whether teachers need special training to teach EAP/ESP http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/themes-and-issues-3#comment-42
In Business English there's some practical suggestions about how to use corpora and concordance tools in writing classes http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/concordancers-language-teach...
Also check out the Applied Linguistics forum for a discussion on the role of metalanguage in ELT http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/role-metalanguage

Very useful to have it all in one post, Olwyn. Many thanks!
Well-done, Olwyn!
A good illustration of EAP in action :). Frankly speaking, I'm greatly impressed by the work you've done. Unbelievable!
You are very helpful. Great thanks!
Thanks, Zira,
I'm greatly impressed by your postings too. You've clearly done a lot of deep thinking about EAP in your ESP curriculum project. Do you want to tell us a bit more about that? Start a new thread and let us know somehting about the project.
Olwyn
Dear Olwyn
Thanks for your feedback and understanding. Can you give me a hint on a new thread that you think would be of interest to the participants of EAP Forum? I can speak endless on EAP and ESP:). What about Content of an EAP Course?
Thanks in advance.
Best wishes from Ukraine
Hi Zira,
Can you tell us about your curriculum development project. I think it would be interesting for people to see the curriculum development process: where did you start? How did you decide what to include? Did you have an organising principle for your syllabus from the start? What were your constraints and how did you work around these?
I think quite a lot of people do not have much experience of designing a programme from the beginning and it would be interesting to hear about that.
Olwyn
