Hi Jennifer,
Great to be co-modertaing with you again!
Carl
Dear Carl,
It is great to know that you are one of the moderators!!! I am sure we will learn many new things. I am not co-moderating this year as I have just started two new jobs. My Business English wiki is still under construction www.englishtraining.pbwiki.com
Warm regards
Jennifer
Hi. I'm Carl and I’ll be one of the moderators for this forum for the duration of the event.
I've been teaching English since 1992 and for the last eight years I've specialized in teaching English for business purposes. In this area, a lot of my teaching has been with undergraduates taking business related degrees in Italy and Germany, where I am now based, but I also have quite a lot of experience of in-house corporate training.
I have a keen interest in the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in language teaching (Biz-E-Tech), and I’ve recently co-developed a groundbreaking online Cert IBET training course for The Consultants-e, which I am currently moderating with a wonderful group of teachers from around the world. I manage a public wiki used by trainers worldwide - BEO-Business English Online, and when time permits I keep a blog which I use as a kind of online scrapbook, where you can find out a little more about my work and interests CD 2009.
And of course, I'm really looking forward to meeting and working with you all!
Hello everyone and greetings from the land of the Nile and Pharaohs. My name is Sahar Azzam and I am one of the moderators for the IATEFL English Business forum.
I work for the British Council in Cairo where I have been involved in teaching English for Business, Business skills and ESP for 12 years or so. I have taught several Business courses for corporate clients and created courses on Email Etiquette, Leadership Skills, Project Planning and Sales Management, etc. In order to further enhance my business skills, I took several online courses in Marketing and Management. In fact, I am currently enrolled in an online MBA programme with Liverpool University. I have finished 5 modules so far, still 3 more to go ;-)
I'm really looking forward to getting to know you and exchanging knowledge and experiences virtually.
All the best
Sahar
Hi Sahar,
Great to be co-moderating with you! I'm sure this is going to be a great experience for all of us!
Carl
My sincere greetings to everyone!
I'm happy to be part of the team! Actually, it's my first time being a moderator. Having been chosen among other teachers from Russia by the British Council for studying at the "E-moderation" course run by the E-Consultants, I decided to volunteer for this position to gain new experience.
My teaching experience makes up almost 10 years by now, mostly all of it teaching Business Enlgish as EFL. Lately I have been involved in the experimental intensive program of Business English for International Business students. My professional interest lies in the field of applying the newest computer technologies, namely Web 2.0 and VLE, for teaching Business English online. In the future I'm planning to build several online courses devoted to Business Communication, and do postgraduate studies in the field of Economics.
I'm delighted to be given this chance to cooperate here with all of you, and hope it will be fruitful experience for all of us!
Hi Anastasia,
Great to have you with us! What a wonderfully international team we are turning out to be! We seem to have lots in common. For example, you took the E-moderation course with Gavin and Nicky's Consultants-e team and I have in the past also taken and taught the same course! And like you I'm also involved in the International Business English Training programme as I am currently moderating the first iteration of the online Cert IBET course.
Your plans for VLEs and Web 2.0 tools for teaching BE sound really exciting - so I hope to hear more about them as the weeks go by! Jennifer, I know, is allso has a very keen interest in these areas and is doing some very exciting work from her base in Argentina.
Looking forward to working with you here.
Carl
Hi, Carl!
Thank you for your warm welcome!
It is great we have things in common. I'm almost done with the course now which I have enjoyed greatly! I'm inspired now by the E-consultants' wonderful example to set the VLE of my own, but it seems to be not easy at all!
I think having so many people interested in applying technologies in teaching BE will help us to make this section really up-to-date!
Best regards,
Anastasia
Hi all,
Great to see IATEFL Online up and running - the past two years were great examples, and I'm looking forward to attending online fully this year (I won't be able to attend it in person for the first time in a while!)
I'm co-coordinator of IATEFL BESIG, the Business English Special Interest Group; if you're not a member yet then have a look at our website (http://www.besig.org ) to see the various things membership offers.
I have a varied background as a BE teacher, teacher trainer and author, though more recently I've moved out of that field and am now Innovations Director for Cambridge University Press. I still stay in touch with developments in the BE field though and look forward to the discussions here.
All the best
Eric
Hi Eric,
Great to have you with us! How are things at CUP?
Carl
Hi, Eric!
"What is done is done for the better" is our saying in Russia. Even though you can't be at the conference this year, you will have a chance to participate more in our section where we are delighted to have you!
Best regards,
Anastasia
P.S. I would love to join your interest group, so I will have a look at your website soon!
Hello Everyone,
Firstly, I would like to congratulate The Cardiff Online Team (a distinguished crew of eight technology experts) for their permanent efforts, dedication, expertise, useful advice to us all at Cardiff Online Website.
I am based in Portugal, more exactly, Évora, which is a World Heritage Town. Most of my life as an EFL teacher has been spent here, and the earlier years of my teaching career were lived in Lisbon, the country's capital.
About thirty seven years on, I feel the same passion/enthusiasm for the fields of Teaching & Learning. Now my main interests focus on e-learning, social networking, blogging, Reading Groups. I have been a regular participant/blogger for the Teaching English Website(TE), an outstanding e-platform where we all have the chance to learn from "global minds". I've also joined the ELT Online Reading Group of the British Council - a very exciting learning environment!
Looking forward to exchanging our views on some particular topics of our interest.
Thank you very much indeed British Council and IATEFL for this unique opportunity.
Maria
Hi Maria,
Great to see you here. Very much looking forward to learning more about your interesting work with e-learning and your many other interests!
Carl
Hi Carl,
Thank you for your kind message.
I've just browsed your Blog, CD 2009.There we can find very useful links to other e-tools providing teachers with a variety of resources and teaching materials.
I've already subscribed an FOOC (From Our Own Correspondent) BBC's podcast. Your BEO-Business English Online is also in my "browsing list".
Maria
Hi Maria,
Pleased you found them of interest!
Carl
Hello Every body,
My name is Amir Abbass Ravayee. I am 37 years old. I am an English teacher, a teacher trainer and an ELT manager from Iran and I have been teaching English for 17 years.
I got my B.A. in English Language and Literature in 1996. I started to teach English in 1991 before I entered the university.
Looking forward to exchanging information.
Best wishes,
Amir
Dear Mr Amir,
Nice to meet you in this rich platform and nice to hear that you are interested in English language and literature. Just to notify you that I am intending to deliver a speech soon about misdemeanour in EFL class and I am actually in forage for true and relevant data about the same topic to support my intervention and consequently make a good coverage of it. Anyone interested in sharing views and perceptions is most welcome.
Stay in touch,
Rachid
Hi Amir,
Great to have you with us! It's a real pleasure to meet a colleague from Iran - a first for me!
Very much looking forward to a productive sharing of experiences, ideas and views.
Carl
Dear Carl,
Let me in turn and on behalf of Amir warmly welcome you among this international network of novice and experienced moderators. It is my first experience with moderation, but frankly, I may dare claim from the very outset that I am so much enjoying it because much learning is being involved here. The best thing one can have in life is this communicative spirit with one's fellows, opening one's self to the Other to discuss ample issues of mutual interests.
Cheers,
Rachid
Hello Rachid,
I very much agree with you that communication and sharing enrich us both professionally and personally and I'm very much looking forward to our working collaboratively here over the coming weeks.
Carl
Hi Carl,
Thanks for your reply. Be sure that I am open to any discussion about teaching and learning. It will be then a great pleasure to exchange my ideas with you. As a point of departure, can you / anyone tell "what is discipline? How can we tame the misbehaved pupils in class? what are the causes and the sorts of misbehaviour which you have in YOUR class? What solutions and recommendations you suggest?
Thanks.
Rachid
Hi Anastasia! My warm greetings to everyone!
My name is Nataliya and I am from Russia too.I have been teaching Business and Banking English at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow for several years. I devoted myself to Financial English teaching after my graduation in 2002. Teaching Financial English helped me a lot when I decided to specialize in teaching Business English 4 years ago.
Anastasia and myself are about to complete the course 'E-moderation" by Kristina Smith and Lindsay Clandfield. That is my first experience in learning how to use and work in moodle as well as being here as a moderator.
It's amazing how much useful information one can get here. I am impressed how much is already done by you all. It's a pleasure to meet so many versitile people.
I'm looking forward to working with you.
Nataliya
Dear Nataliya and all!
I'm happy you made it at last! Great to see you here and I'm sure you will enjoy it a lot. We already have so many people who have joined our section. It is amazing! Welcome everybody!
It is also helpful that our course is running to its end this week (though it is sad, I wish it went on forever :) ), because now we will have more time to devote to the online conference.
Anastasia
Hi Anastasia! Nice to meet you here!
You are absolutely right! We are about to complete one course and another follow-up challenging experience is already there. I would call it a practical part.-)) Everything is just going great! Let's do our best!
Nataliya
Hi Nataliya,
It's a pleasure to have you join us. There's a very big Consultants-e influence on our little team of moderators - Jennifer also took a course with them recently!
Looking forward to working with you.
Carl
Hi Carl, Anastasia, Natalia, and all,
I would like to welcome you all in this forum, I am really overwhlemed by the knowledge and experiences each and everyone of you have. It is like entering the house of Teaching Business gurus, where there is a lot to learn and acquire.
I am so honoured to be working with you, and please accept my apologies for my late postings.
All the best,
Sahar
Hi Sahar,
Wonderful to have you with us!
Carl
Hi Carl, Ni Sahar!, Hi everyone!
Thank you for your warm welcome and kind words. I'm glad to work in such a highly educated team!
I am really looking forward to getting to know you and exchanging knowledge and experience.
I am very excited to contribute here.
Best,
Nataliya
Dear Sahar,
Honestly speaking I just feel the same way as you do. The first time I opened the link with the introductions and read all the postings, including yours by the way, I said to myself: "They are definitely gurus here who have so many things to share with others, so much experience and knowledge!" Myself I feel to be honoured to be part of such a team! In any case, that's why we are here - to learn and share! What is good about this environment - everybody is so helpful, friendly and welcoming!
Looking forward to our mutual moderating,
Anastasia.
Hello everyone,
Thank you all for your warm welcomes and words. I am speechless, but I can say and see from our communication that regardless to our geographical barriers, cultural backgrounds, education, language and cyber communication, that human sense is there. As Anastasia said it "everybody is so helpful, friendly and welcoming!"
I am so excited really, so let's keep this up :-)
Ta,
Sahar
Hi everyone!
I absolutely agree with Anastasia and Sahar. I really feel honoured to be part of our team too! So, as Sahar said let’s keep this friendly atmosphere up!
Nataliya
