Impact of globalization on teacher training

Dear All
We are living in a globalized society and we rightly call ourselves global citizens. Globalization has its impact on every field and ELT is no exeption. A number of ELT professionals work in countries other than their own. Online teaching is gaining momentum. We interact with people living in different parts of the world. In this connection it is very apt to discuss the impact of globalization on teacher training and education.

Pilar, I do feel that teacher trainees of today should be trained differently. They should be exposed to Global English. Even the listening component of IELTS has incorporated global English. The needs of the global learner of English should be assessed and teacher training and education should be based on the assessment of needs.

hi Albert,
Thanks for introducing this topic. Global English, International English, General English, English for Intelligibility, World Englishes, Intercultural English are names we teachers from different parts of the world read about every day. Yet, is the impact of these names and what they represent really felt in teacher training?
