Hi all,
I thought I'd create this thread so you can tell us what you think of the experience so far.
Anything goes - what do you think of the site, the preparations, the colour - let us know what's on your mind
Look forward to hearing from *you*
Julian & the Cardiff Online team
Hi Karenne
We hadn`t thought of that - let`s see what we can do
Thanks for the idea
Julian
Sorry me again,
It'd also be useful to have a standard intro text to cut and paste into our blogs / or bones which we can then rewrite.
I travelled on over here from link in the BESIG yahoo group posting and press release there however while it tells some details, numbers of participants expected, interactive coverage etc it'd be super to have some 'meat' - a handful of the "big" names presenting and what they'll be presenting, stuff like that - help us help you ;-)
Karenne
Hi Karenne- thanks once again.
I thought it'd be best to create a new topic with some text that you can adapt.
Please go to http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/forum/help-us-promote-cardiff-online
Hope these texts are useful
Thanks
Julian
Hi Julian
Wouldn't it be good if participants could add some information about themselves in their profiles like it was the case last year when the Moodle platform was used? That way, we could simply click on the name of someone we would like to know more about and could read it. Now, I have to "hunt" for that information somewhere in the introductions of that forum.
Hi Nergiz
I agree - this is a useful feature and something missing from the set up this year.
I'm afraid I don't think we'll have this function for Cardiff but I'll look into it.
In the meantime, you can click onsomeone's profile and read a post where they have introduced themselves
Many thanks
Julian
Hi Julian
Is there a way to subscribe to these forum posts? Rather than having to check back each day.
Thanks
Howard
Hi Howard
We don`t have this in place right now but is is something we're looking at setting up in the coming week to 10 days
Thanks
Julian
Ok - thanks
Hi Julian
Btw, what system is this? I'm guessing that it's an off-the-shelf content management system.
Thanks
Howard
Hi Howard
This site is built in Drupal - an open source CMS
Cheers
Julian
Thanks :)
Dear Julian,
I wanted to include a link to a website in my response somewhere but that is not possible. My whole message was deleted when I tried to save it! Perhaps a message somewhere that this is not possible???
Last year it was possible to remove forums from the list that you weren't interested in. Whereas I would like to look at everything, as a moderator as well I just don't have the time, so it would have been nice to only see the forums I want to see. Guess that isn't possible though. As I see several comments about missing functionality that would have been available in Moodle, what was the reason for moving away from Moodle this year?
Cheers,
Kevin
Dear Julien and Gavin and the whole team,
This website is well organized. The team is friendly, helpful and highly motivated and so are the moderators. As for, the colours, they are well chosen because they don't disturb the eyes. Green is there and it suggests this sort of liveliness and life this site is witnessing. It is opening our appetite for discussion and every thing is put in its right place.
Thanks again,
Rachid
Hi Kevin
We felt that using Moodle - which is essentially a course presentation platform - presented us with certain limitations.
I'm not saying we've got everything right this year - a bit too early to say yet. There are certainly quite a few things on the site this year that we couldn't have done in Moodle.
Thanks & hopefully you'll see more developments in terms of functionality in the next 7 to 10 days
Julian
Kevin,
Some of my favourite 'Moodle' functionality has certainly gone, but some new things I've found quite good - the overall threading of the forums in Drupal is slightly better, I think. However, the big plus for Drupal was its relatviely easy extensibility in terms of adding features and pages - like the automatic Twitter feed, for example. But perhaps the biggest thing was that we really want ALL presenters at the f2f conference to upload their materials here to share with those who can't be with us in Cardiff - and Drupal was far more suited to that, which was the real swing in its favour. We really hope everyone will upload and create an amazing repository of learning opportunities for us al.
Gavin
Thanks for the explanation Gavin. I can certainly see how the uploading aspect might be easier.
Cheers,
Kevin
Hey ya,
As someone popping in and out of the forums and live sessions am noticing that am doing quite a lot of steps back and forth - is it possible for you to put a link in the "useful links" section which is strictly for the live session schedule only (not including the video but with a link back to the video?)
At the moment if you click on live session and there is a live session going on that you feel like watching with one eye/listening LOL, but you want to scroll down to find out what's the next sesion available you can't read the details, check global times etc, without losing the session you're watching/listening to.
If you open up a second window to do this in then you get two videos running until you pop back out, then again when in again ... etc, etc ;-)
Karenne
Hi, Julian,
I just watched the British Council on line presentation. It was great! I am in South China and the picture was perfect. The sound changed pitch a couple of times , but it was very good and clear.
thanks, keep up the good work,
iskra
Hi Julian
The online experience at IATEFL is incredible. Well done to all involved - a truly great achievement. A question - have all the sessions been recorded at all? If so ,where can they be found? If not, is there a list of what has been recorded and where can we access it?
Candy
Hi Julian
Candy again. I can't seem to access any audio sessions. When I click on the link, I get a menu of the days and if I click on a day, I get nothing. Have there been any audio recordings, and if so where can I access them?
Candy
Hello to everybody,
I have already sounded my thanks to the organisers of this huge event to happen online, for all their hard work and advanced ideas. With this message I would like to say that this is incredible to be able to watch the sessions from another part of the world, and once again thank you for this opportunity, it is a great idea to put the presentations on video. Also it is really good news of making this website to be available for another year (though I don't at the moment understand what exactly it means), because I am sure that it is hard for everybody to keep up with all the discussions, sessions, videos and presentations. The conference is such a huge event with so many things going on at the same time, that the majority could miss a lot. But now by keeping this meeting place alive for such a long time I am sure all the participants, presenters and staff will have time to sit back, and digest all the information at a normal pace. Brilliant idea!
Anastasia

Hi Julian,
I saw the posting requesting ELT bloggers to add info and banners about the conference which I'd be more than happy to do.
I was wondering if the intro-video could be made available for us to embed into blogs/ postings.
Thanks,
Karenne Sylvester
